India is pushing hard….

India is pushing hard for changing the rules of admission of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS). Currently, admission is only by consensus and if even one of the 24 members objects to the entry of a new country, the doors remain closed. This has prevented the admission of even observers such as the U.S., since Iran objected. There are eight observers including China, Russia, Germany and Italy. The new rules envisage admission of new observers if a majority of the members is in favour. That effectively neuters Iran.
