Craving For Land

22 March 2019

Former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan G. Parthasarathy had an interesting anecdote to share during a recent conference on Gilgit-Baltistan organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in New Delhi. The former diplomat who is now Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu shared the apocryphal tale to illustrate what is seen as penchant of Pak armed forces officers to acquire land. The story goes like this—there was once a meeting where the Pakistani air chief had fallen asleep. As he woke up, he heard someone say that the F-16 was being purchased. His prompt response: “It’s ok with me if it’s the corner plot.” Others present burst into peals of laughter
