Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange who had been holed up in the embassy of Ecuador since 2012 after the South American nation granted him political asylum, preventing his extradition to Sweden where he was facing sexual assault charges has been arrested. While the charges have been dropped since, Assange was arrested for jumping bail after Ecuador decided to revoke his political asylum. Assange now faces extradition to the U.S. with the country’s Justice Department accusing him of conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain access to a government computer and gaining access to classified information that was then made public by Wikileaks. SNI Deputy Editor Parul Chandra spoke to London-based international affairs columnist Rashmee Roshan Lall about the sudden cancellation of Assange’s political asylum by Ecuador.
