The U.S.’s attempt to unseat Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro and impose sanctions on the country’s oil exports has triggered a new “power game” amongst the major world powers. Russia which supports President Maduro has warned the U.S. not to intervene in Venezuela while China too has warned against “outside forces” meddling in the country’s internal affairs. With analysts stating that both countries are looking at Venezuela as the ideal military and strategic base by which to counter the U.S., suggestions of a new ‘Cold War’ style posturing are coming to the forefront. Here is a breakdown of just what each country is looking to do in Venezuela and what are likely to be the possible fallouts of this crisis.
