Jadhav Verdict: Chinese Among 15 ICJ Judges Who Junked Pak Arguments

29

In a majority verdict (15-1), the International Court of Justice has rejected almost all the arguments made by Pakistan in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Among them was a judge from China, Pakistan’s so-called all-weather ally, who too went with the others in concluding that Pakistan had violated provisions of the Vienna Convention by not giving India consular access to Jadhav. While staying Jadhav’s execution as ordered by a Pak military court, the ICJ also called upon Pakistan to do an effective review of Jadhav’s case. SNI’s Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale and Deputy Editor Parul Chandra analyse the verdict and its possible impact on India-Pakistan ties.
