So the ice has been broken. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called up PM Narendra Modi on Sunday to congratulate him on his government winning a second term in office. The Pak PM had already congratulated PM Modi via a tweet on May 23, the day the election results were declared. But today’s call raises hopes of a thaw in bilateral ties after India called off a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries which was to be held on the margins of the UN General Assembly in September last year. The Pulwama terror attack in February for which India held Pakistan responsible followed by India’s retaliatory Balakot strike added to the bitterness in ties. With the two PMs speaking today, will they meet on the margins of the SCO Summit, slated for June 13-14, in Bishkek.
