Would you like to venture a guess on the name of the country to which many doctors from Kerala head to work? The answer, it’s none other than Brunei. Located on the island of Borneo, this tiny nation with a population of 4.5 lakh is home to a number of doctors from the southern state. Currently, a substantial number of 11,500 Indians live in Brunei with the first wave reaching this country soon after the discovery of oil in 1929. These Indian migrants began working in the hydrocarbon sector in Brunei. However, over a period of time, many professionals also moved to this country, a number of them including doctors, engineers, teachers and bankers. Indeed, a majority of the doctors in this oil-rich nation are from India and among them a large number are from Kerala.
