Home As We Heard ‘My India, My Mozambique’

‘My India, My Mozambique’

Mozambique’s minister for foreign affairs and cooperation José Pacheco’s lecture at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) during his official visit to New Delhi this week had a liberal dose of humour too. While noting that Mozambique and India are “enjoying the same ocean”, he jocularly added that a good swimmer could simply swim across to the other country. At another point in his speech, he sought to highlight the warmth in bilateral ties by remarking, “When I’m here, I say to my counterpart–I’ve come to visit my India”. In the same vein, he said his counterpart responds by saying, “Welcome, brother”. The minister also drew attention to two members of the audience, both Indian-origin Mozambicans whose forefathers migrated to Mozambique years ago.
