Cricketing ties have not been the only casualty of the rift in India-Pakistan ties. While the political leadership of the two countries bickers and the bitterness in relations continues, people to people ties too have suffered. A visa was denied to Pakistani documentary filmmaker Mahera Omar to participate in the seventh Delhi International Film Festival held recently. Her documentary on architect and urban planner Perween Rahman who pioneered a low cost sanitation model for Karachi’s poor as part of the ground-breaking Orangi Project won the award in the ‘Across the Border’ category at the festival. Owing to the denial of visa, Omar was unable to receive the award in person.
