Celebrating Gay Verdict

The British High Commission was the venue for an evening of celebration on Thursday as over 100 members of the LGBT community gathered on the lawns of the residence of Kieran Drake, Minister Counsellor Political and Press, to celebrate the Supreme Court’s recent judgement decriminalising homosexuality. Members of the LGBT community, lawyers who fought to have section 377 struck down, and human rights activists, attired in iconic LGBT rainbow colours, danced to music played by a live band. But what really got the invitees in the party mood was a number sung by drag queen Kitty Su. The reception also sought to highlight the progress made by the governments of the UK and India in promoting the rights of the LGBT community. As Drake said, “The judgement will help ensure that who a person loves does not determine how they are treated by society.”
