The Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government are pulling out all stops in what will be the last Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Convention before the former’s five-year tenure draws to a close. Not only has the date of the event been changed to allow delegates to take a holy dip at the Ardh Kumbh but the UP government will be building a Pravasi Gram complex in Varanasi, the city where the convention is to be held next year. While all this has been announced officially with the government saying the diaspora had expressed a desire to go to the Kumbh, there’s more in store, it seems. There are whispers that the Indian envoys have been asked to identify prominent citizens in their respective countries who can also join the pravasis in taking a dip at Prayagraj. If this indeed is true, the envoys for sure must be a harried lot trying to execute this odd request. But if they do manage to gather a band of foreigners to be part of the kumbh snan, it promises to be a great photo-op for sure.
